Beyond the Stars: Why This One Has No Vocals

Beyond the Stars by Eddie Zar, single cover artwork

Beyond the Stars is out now. It is a progressive trance track, and it is fully instrumental. No vocal, no chops, no spoken hook. Just the music.

People will probably ask why there is no vocal on it. I do not have a clever answer. I felt like making an instrumental, so I made one.

Not every track needs a reason

It is easy to treat every release as if it needs a strategy behind it. Sometimes the only reason is that the idea felt right when I sat down. This one wanted room, and a vocal would have taken up the space the melody needed.

The piano gets the spotlight

With no singer, something else has to carry the emotion. Here it is the piano. The solo is my favorite part of the track, the point where everything else steps back and one instrument says what a lyric would have said.

Progressive trance is built for this

Trance has always been comfortable without words. The genre works through patience: layers arriving one at a time, tension building over minutes instead of seconds, and a payoff that feels earned because you waited for it. An instrumental lets that structure do its job without interruption.

How to listen

Play it start to finish. Headphones or a car, somewhere you will not skip ahead. If the piano section lands the way I hope, you will know the moment when you get there.

Beyond the Stars is on Spotify and YouTube now, and it has its own page here: Beyond the Stars. If it connects, save it or add it to a playlist. That does more for an independent release than almost anything else.

With no lyrics, the title is the only set of words attached to the record. I wrote about why that matters in Let the Track Tell You Its Name.
